3 day liberation tour of the liberation struggle during the Apartheid era. Following in the footsteps of the great african leaders.
1-Day:
We start with a visit to the Steve Biko Garden of remembrance, the Bisho stadium massacre site and other places of interest round King William's Town.
Then we travel to Fort Hare University, the alma mater of past President Nelson Mandela and many other great African leaders. Here you may visit the university library, the ANC archives and the De Beers Art Gallery with its fine collection of African Art. Some of the remains of the fort and the graves of British soldiers killed in the vicinity can still be seen in the grounds. Lovedale, which gave birth to Fort Hare, is another place of great historical interest that we visit. President Thabo Mbeki once described it as Scotland's greatest gift to Africa.
A truly not to be missed tour for anyone interested in the recent struggle history of our country. The tour also highlights the rise of the missionary educated African elite in South Africa who was to play a pivotal role in the fight against apartheid.
Excludes: Lunch (Lunch can be bought at Fort Hare.)
