Frontier Route Tour gives one an excellent introduction to this fascinating frontier region - frontier country. Anyone who has read Noel Mosterts excellent book 'Frontiers' or has an interest in frontier war history will treasure this tour.
Day1:
We depart from East London and travel down the coast beyond the Great Fish River to the early settler towns of Port Alfred and Bathurst, visiting sites of old forts and churches that withstood onslaught during time of war.
Overnight: Bathurst - Setter country.
Day2:
We visit he scene where the mystic Makana (Nxele) led what became known as the Battle of Grahamstown as well as Fort Selwyn, Frasers and Trompeters Drift Posts. Peddie, Gwanga and Fort Willshire are among the other places of interest that we visit, as is the Fort Beaufort Museum.
Overnight: Katberg Area.
Day3:
Today's highlight is a visit to the Waterkloof scene of many months of fighting, as well as Fort Armstrong, Post Retief and Philipton, where the Rev James Read led his flock in the Kat River Settlement area, we also visit the grave of the great prophet Ntsikana.

Day4:
We travel to the sites of military settlements attacked and annihilated on Christmas Day, 1850; visit Fort Hare, Chief Sandile's former Great Place and the scenes of the Battle of Boma Pass and the Burnshill disaster.
Overnight: Stutterheim.
Day5:
Today we visit the graves of Chiefs Sandile's and Maqomo as well as the site where an entire patrol was wiped out during the war of 1835/36. We visit Pirie Forest (optional walk to Sandile's Cave) and the site of the Battle of Amalinde.
Overnight: King William's Town.
Day6:
We spend our last day visiting places of historic interest in and around King William's Town, including Fort Murray before ending our tour in East London.
