There is probably no more beautiful and historic forest in South Africa than Pirie Forest just 22km from King William's Town. Probably more skirmishes have been fought in this forest than any single area in all of Africa.

We go on a long walk up to Sandile's Cave high in the mountain forest with amazing views. Hear how Sandile and his men fought to the end here and then return back to the scenic dam Giant yellowwood trees were felled from this forest to provide timber for the construction of forts in the district as well as the Kimberly diamond fields. This was where the Giant Golden Mole, endemic to this region, was first discovered.
